Day 27 | YOU HAVE TO ASK
40 Days of Encouragement
Day 27 | YOU HAVE TO ASK
YOU HAVE TO ASK
John 16.24
"Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full."
We are living in times that make even strong people of faith grimace. It seems each week has NEWS about someone in power – political, media, tech giant, or billionaire, having a new plan to fix everything. Of course, that may mean censorship, a crackdown on our freedoms, inflation, more war, or who knows what.
What reasonable people like you and I want is usually NONE of the above. Then, as we live our lives, our emotions often lead us to be more and more up upset about how things in the world are going.
So where do you go for peace? Honest, sleep-through-the-night peace. Real, not-snapping-anyone's-head-off peace.
Likewise, where do you go for encouragement about where you are in the world and what tomorrow may bring?
You go to the Fountain. You go the Rock. You go to the Lord.
The context of today's verse is that Jesus was talking to His disciples after the last Supper but before His crucifixion, which wasn't far away. Jesus, facing the ultimate challenge to His humanity, was encouraging His followers, and teaching them that they could PRAY to the Father, in HIS NAME, and receive what they needed in full.
This was all still pretty new to Jewish men… that Almighty, Jehovah God could be approached as "Father." (They hadn't learned that in the Temple.)
But that is what the Lord offers YOU today too. Right now, wherever you are, YOU can have a hearing and a conversation with Almighty Jehovah God. The One who can supply ALL your needs if you simply pray to Him in His Son Jesus' name.
Prayer: LORD, forgive me for turning to you last when I need encouragement and emotional support. Thank You for being willing to meet my needs. Amen.
