Day 21 | PEACE IN JESUS
PEACE IN JESUS
John 16:33
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” (NLT)
The news is relentless. Every day, nearly 25 million newspapers are circulated here in the U.S. Each of these, added to every TV and online news purveyor, shares their SPIN on the news. One thing that ALL news services have in common is their desire to have MORE readers or viewers. And – just like negativity seems to be the primary way elections are carried out today – exaggerated, negative, and fear-inducing news appears to be the way to increase readership in newspapers.
What difference does our Christian faith make in times like these? What does the LORD offer us, His followers, in times like these?
First, let's consider how Jesus would live in this fear-filled world which we live in today.
I think He would be living just as He lived 2000 years ago… as though He had peace that defied His day's circumstances. It doesn't matter that we have technologies that were not even imagined back then. It doesn't matter that today we have trains, planes, and automobiles and back then, he had foot and donkey power. He lived in close harmony with His Heavenly Father, giving him purpose and perfect peace.
Jesus shared that formula with his followers back then and he shares it with us today. “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me.” Learn to walk with Him… you'll have that peace today too.
Prayer: LORD, I don't want to just get through life; I want to get through it with YOUR peace. I am waiting on you. I want to walk with you as you did your Father and thus enjoy having peace in you. Amen.
