Day 9 | THE LORD’S STRONG RIGHT HAND
40 Days of Encouragement
Day 9 | THE LORD’S STRONG RIGHT HAND
THE LORD’S STRONG RIGHT HAND
Psalm 118:14-16
“The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation. The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; The right hand of the Lord does valiantly. The right hand of the Lord is exalted; The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.” (NKJV)
Have you noticed that most every church service you attend has singing?
Today, with schools canceling music programs, singing may seem like an anomaly. And singing in parts – as choirs do – is unusual today.
Yet, singing is a big part of the Bible. The book of Psalms is, of course, a songbook! Every psalm was designed to be sung. True, we don’t have the melodies anywhere, but singing is a human characteristic.
Here the psalmist is SINGING that the LORD (or Yahweh) is his “strength and song. “
So then, what does the psalmist do? He sings about his great God! Reread the verses and God is lifted up!
Then too, the psalmist reminds us of the “right hand of the Lord,” which would indicate his STRONG right hand (since most people are right-handed and therefore, the right hand would be their strong hand).
Yahweh’s right-hand does valiant, mighty things!
Yahweh’s right-hand does valiantly and is strong!
So, back to singing. I can just imagine a group of Believers – Old or New Testament – singing this psalm and getting bolder the more they sing. And why not? Singing involves thinking, vocalizing with the notes, and then – singing! It’s not precisely speaking and not playing an instrument, but it’s using our God-given voice to enumerate some of the many things God has, can, and will do for His children.
Keep yourself open when you’re in church next for a song that speaks to you. Write down the title. Go online and find it – sing along if you can, and let the Lord teach you, comfort you, and encourage you.
Prayer: LORD, I had forgotten how much music plays a part in our church services. Help me to look for a song that speaks to me and then help me to repeat it during the week. Amen.
