40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 35 | DAVID COMPLAINS TO GOD
DAVID COMPLAINS TO GOD
Psalm 64:1-5
“Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy. Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, from the throng of evildoers, who whet their tongues like swords, who aim bitter words like arrows, shooting from ambush at the blameless, shooting at him suddenly and without fear. They hold fast to their evil purpose; they talk of laying snares secretly, thinking, ‘Who can see them?’”
(ESV)

Have you been there?

Things are happening all around you – and maybe to you – that are difficult and perhaps even evil. Others are plotting, laying snares, and saying hurtful things about you. They are likely lying about you and accusing you falsely of saying something you hadn’t said.

Have you ever dreaded having to face another day of more of the same? And today – more than in David’s day – our technology makes lying about someone or destroying their reputation easier and more anonymous.

Have you been there?

One of the things about the Psalms and the entire Bible is how REAL the writers were.
Here David – Great shepherd, killer of Goliath, “man after God’s own heart, and King – is COMPLAINING to God! He’s not having a good day and is pouring out his feelings to Almighty God.

At first, his complaining seems almost unnoticed, just another Psalm. But his complaint – with GOD – is duly written/spoken/sung (as with all Psalms).

So let me suggest something: God has broad shoulders and can handle your emotions. Whether you’re feeling UP or DOWN, you can talk to God and be honest about how you feel. In fact, I encourage you to be… that’s how David was. Forthright, open, upset, complaining.

But then I also encourage you to open your Bible and read the REST of the STORY of this Psalm. Only ten verses long, you’re halfway there!

Prayer: LORD, thank You for being willing to hear from me wherever, whenever, about whatever. I’m glad David could always turn to you, and so can I.  Amen.
