Day 33 | WAITING FOR GOD ALONE
WAITING FOR GOD ALONE

Psalm 62:5-8
“My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah”
  (NKJV)

Waiting. It's not something we are particularly fond of doing. We don't like waiting for a red light to change. We don't like waiting for someone in front of us to get OFF the phone and drive. We don't like waiting in a long line at the store (and thus usually choose the shortest one). We don't like waiting for someone to pick up the phone when we call. We don't like waiting in the doctor’s office (or, heaven forbid, the ER) … and on and on and on. We just don't like to wait.

Thus, when it comes to our relationship with the Lord – and as David writes here – we need to LEARN to wait upon the Lord.

But a key word in this psalm – to me anyway – is to wait SILENTLY.

Today, more than ever in our lives, the world is noisy. Drive a car and someone will have their music playing loudly with all windows down just so that we can "enjoy" their choice of music. (No, thank you!)

And with our cell phones, we are seldom away from everything or anyone. Many are so tied to their phones that they can't even walk around the block without talking to someone or drive a car without texting or talking. Yes, electronics are great and have their place, but NOT when it comes to spending quality time with Lord.

I suggest you turn EVERYTHING OFF at least once daily and wait silently for God. Pour out your heart to Him, praise Him, thank Him, and then be quiet… and listen to the impressions He gives you and the Scriptures He brings to mind.

Prayer: LORD, help me to make quiet places in my life for you! Amen.
