40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 31 | WHO DO YOU CALL?
WHO DO YOU CALL?

Psalm 55
“As for me, I will call upon God, and the LORD shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice. Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved."

Once again, David is in a tough spot.  This time, there is a rebellion against David as King.  Many think this is about his son Absalom who wanted to overthrow his father and take over.  But in addition, one of his trusted advisors has also turned against David.

So, what would YOU do in David's place?

The first thing most would probably do is to feel sorry for themselves. To whine to whomever walked by and to feel "woe is me."

Of course, the problem with that is that you're still where you were at the end of your pity party.
So, David – wise and experienced – reaches out to the Lord God in prayer and asks for help.  He tells the Lord about his troubles, admits feeling fearful, then asks God for help.

Reread these words of David: “As for me, I will call upon God.”

Consider this: Every day, you and I can choose to call upon the Lord or not.  It's easy to do; it's easy not to do.

Joshua faced the same choice, and in Joshua 24:15, he said to his followers: "Choose you this day whom you will serve … but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

I'm sure you've noticed that life is more complicated today than ever.  Today things are more challenging, unsettling, dubious, and fear-producing.

We need to "call upon the Lord," as David wrote, and do as Joshua did, and CHOOSE to serve the LORD and put our trust in Him.

Prayer: LORD, things today are more challenging and complex.  Life is as challenging as ever, but I'm choosing to trust in YOU.  Amen.
