40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 28 | GOD’S PROTECTION
GOD’S PROTECTION
From Psalm 48
“1 Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God!
His holy mountain, beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great King. Within her citadels God has made himself known as a fortress. "
"Go, inspect the city of Jerusalem. Walk around and count the many towers. Take note of the fortified walls, and tour all the citadels, that you may describe them to future generations. For that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever, and he will guide us until we die.” (NLT)
When you were little, did you have somewhere you went when you were afraid? Maybe in a closet, under the covers, or just around mom or dad? Seeking protection and comfort is typical when we are little. And to some degree, we don’t outgrow that need. O sure, we’re not afraid of the “boogie man” or have other childhood fears, but even as adults we can still experience fear, doubt, or worry. We can be afraid of the unknown, the next disease, the future, the direction of the country, and so on.
In this Psalm, the authors (the Sons of Korah) were lifting up their voices of praise of God’s Holy City on Mount Zion. They encouraged others to go and see the many towers, fortified walls, and citadels… all designed by God to provide the protection that those then – as well as those in the future – would need. The Psalm encourages us to TELL future generations what God is like.
Let me ask: Are you doing that? Are you telling future generations? Are you telling others that “He is our God forever and ever, and He will guide us until we die?”
Prayer: LORD, help me open my mouth more and tell the younger generations how good You have been to me and that You will be to ALL of us if we’ll just trust and obey. Amen.
