Day 23 | TRUST, DELIGHT, COMMIT
40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 23 | TRUST, DELIGHT, COMMIT
TRUST, DELIGHT, COMMIT
Psalm 37:3-5
“Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” (NKJV)
These three verses are more of my favorites in Scripture which I memorized in the KJV when I was much younger.
Reading from the very first verse of this psalm, we’re told to NOT fret because of the evil people in the world that they will – in time – get what’s coming to them. (In so many words.)
But then God tells us – through this Psalm by David – what TO do. Easy to remember: TRUST, DELIGHT, and COMMIT.
TRUST. David tells us that when we genuinely TRUST in the Lord, to run the universe, to take care of the evil people, to take care of us, we CAN do GOOD, as we enjoy “living safely in the land and prospering.” (NLT). I can understand why the Spirit led David to write this because we ALL tend to worry about the “bad guys,” and as we focus on them, we forget to “do good” to others.
DELIGHT. Whenever I go out with my wife or spend time with her, I DELIGHT myself in just being with her. My wife and I just enjoy being together, and that’s how it should also be when we are alone with the Lord.
COMMIT. We should commit everything we do to the Lord for approval, guidance, and service. Plus, when we commit our plans to the Lord, He can supercharge them!
Three simple words. Wise counsel from our Lord, through the psalmist David.
Prayer: LORD, I believe in You, Your power, plan, knowledge, and abilities. I trust you, delight in you, and commit my way to you. Amen.
