Day 22| NO FEAR OF GOD
40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 22| NO FEAR OF GOD
NO FEAR OF GOD
Psalm 36:1-4
“Sin lurks deep in the hearts of the wicked, forever urging them on to evil deeds. They have no fear of God to hold them back. Instead, in their conceit, they think they can hide their evil deeds and not get caught. Everything they say is crooked and deceitful; they are no longer wise and good. They lie awake at night to hatch their evil plots instead of planning how to keep away from wrong.” (TLB)
We are living in an evil period of history. Our nation didn't start that way, as it was established back in 1776 by men who were overwhelmingly orthodox Christians. These men feared God, prayed much, and looked to Him for guidance in the Revolutionary War, the Declaration's writing, and the Constitution's framing. God was apparent in their writings and speeches.
Today, MANY years later, there is more blatant evil being done by politicians than I can ever remember. And it seems that these verses from Psalm 36 are being played out in Washington DC by any number of folks… though not all. And our citizens often follow their elected politicians.
So, we ask – as Pilate asked Jesus – "What is truth?" Why would we think that some things being said and done in our Capital are "evil"?
Because for us – and the founding fathers – God's Word IS truth and the final authority for what is right and wrong.
God says that lying, slander, and plotting evil is wrong. I could give a list of things that have recently been said or done by "elected officials" in DC: anti-God, anti-the-Word of God, and "evil deeds," as mentioned in Psalm 36. Let's continue to pray for a revival in this country.
Prayer: LORD, forgive us for all the wrong we've done in this country. Lord, help us to elect God-fearing men and women to office this coming election cycle and help us as a nation to turn back to you. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. Lord, may that be true again of us. Amen.
