40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 19| LEARNING TO LEAN ON GOD
LEARNING TO LEAN ON GOD
Psalm 31:2-5
“Bow down Your ear to me, Deliver me speedily; Be my rock of refuge, A fortress of defense to save me. For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake, Lead me and guide me. Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me, For You are my strength. Into Your hand I commit my spirit”
Living during David’s time must have been much rougher than we have it today. It seems nearly every time David writes something it’s because he’s in trouble and needs God’s help… again.
But, that faith, that reaching out, is the result of an amazing trust relationship that David had with Almighty God which he had built over a lifetime.
David says, “for your name’s sake, lead me, guide me and pull me out of the net which has been secretly laid for me.”
David realizes that he and God are a team. (David gets into trouble, and God bails him out! Ha!)
But David also wisely understands that the STRONG member of this “partnership” is Almighty God and that David can’t do it himself.
Let me ask you, do you try to do everything yourself?
I remember when our children were little – maybe 2 years old – and they wanted to tie their own shoes instead of having one of us tie them. An admirable goal, but usually they weren’t ready and made a mess out of the shoestrings. They simply didn’t appreciate that they still need OUR help and that we would (well, their mom would) try to make sure they didn’t leave the house looking like rag-a-muffins or in obvious need of some adult help.
Let the Lord be your rock, your refuge and rock and fortress. Don’t try to do what you know you need Him to do for you. Ask Him, sincerely and honestly.
Prayer: LORD, forgive me for not relying on you more, and instead be more like David. Help me to “pray always” and talk to you throughout each day. Amen.
