40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 18| GOD’S HOLINESS AND MAJESTY
40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 18| GOD’S HOLINESS AND MAJESTY
GOD’S HOLINESS AND MAJESTY
Psalm 29:1-2, 4, 11
“Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones, Give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name;
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
The voice of the Lord is powerful; The voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.”
This psalm is one of pure praise wherein David uses the name the LORD Boldface 18 times in the 11 verses!
We don’t often think about God’s name, “Yahweh” – a way of pronouncing the Hebrew YHWH (since Hebrew the vowels were usually not written) – and it means “I Am.” Jehovah is the Latin equivalent based on the Hebrew letters JHVH.
Moses was the first to learn God’s name, which happened at the burning bush.
The Jews thought God’s name too holy to say and thus came up with Adonai, which means lord or master.
When Jesus came to earth, His name was “Yeshua” (translated Jesus) which means “Yahweh saves.”
Our society today has gotten very casual with names and titles of people, despite their position of authority and honor.
WE – followers of Jesus – should relish showing respect and honor to the Lord God. Intimately in touch with Almighty God, David knew that… which shows in many of his psalms. “Give unto the LORD the glory due His name” (verse 2).
So ask yourself: “Have I purposefully given the LORD honor in the past seven days by the words I have said in ANY of my prayers?” It is so easy to take our LORD for granted, yet HE is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The same LORD that David wrote about in Psalm 29 is the same One we worship today.
Prayer: LORD, You deserve more than I have been giving You. I’m sorry that my prayers are so much about me and not enough praise to You. I do praise You Lord. Amen.
