40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 16| DAVID’S FEARLESS TRUST IN GOD
40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 16| DAVID’S FEARLESS TRUST IN GOD
DAVID’S FEARLESS TRUST IN GOD
Psalm 27:1-2, 5, 14
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.
Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!”
Have you noticed that we all have good days and bad? Wonderful times and not so great. There are times when the enemy tries to get us to BE AFRAID when he whispers to us that “you can’t depend on God. He’s way too busy to care about your little problem.”
Although the words may differ, David captured that battle – good vs. evil – in this fabulous psalm. (I remember directing more than one church choir to sing the song based on this psalm – which was beautiful!)
But here, David is stating – for the record – that the LORD (note all caps – meaning Yahweh) is his LIGHT and SALVATION. Thus, David need not fear or be afraid. Yes, David was in trouble (again), but he trusted in His God to put him in “His pavilion,” “His tabernacle” – a place of safety and protection. Upon a “rock” – solid, reliable, and above the flood waters.
Then David concludes by encouraging the listener – or singer of this song – to WAIT on the Lord and be of good courage.
That is a key as well. God does not always act immediately but always works at the right time. And He desires to STRENGTHEN your heart (the CORE of your being). And that might require a little waiting – but waiting on the Lord is the perfect thing to do.
Prayer: LORD, I am so glad that You are way smarter than me. I see the NOW, but You know the past, present, AND the future. I will wait on your and be of good courage. Amen.
