40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 15| GET YOUR OWN DIRT
GET YOUR OWN DIRT
Psalm 24:1
“The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.”
Do you remember getting a new ball when you were a kid? And do you remember maybe putting your name on it so you could find which one was yours and bring it home when you went out to play with the other kids? Well, I do. I remember looking for just the right ink pen or marker to use. Even later, as an adult, I remember putting my name and phone on some PA gear and cords I had bought so that others would know whose they were.
We try to protect the things we own… thus why we have car license plates, pink slips, keep the receipts for our new refrigerator, and so on.
Consider God. He made everything. (Genesis 1:1 – “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”)
You’ve probably heard the old joke…
"God was once approached by a scientist who said, Listen God, we’ve decided we don’t need you anymore. These days we can clone people, transplant organs, and do all sorts of things that used to be considered miraculous.
God replied, Don’t need me, huh? How about we put your theory to the test. Why don’t we have a competition to see who can make a human being, say, a male human being?
The scientist agrees, so God declares they should do it like he did in the good old days when he created Adam.
Fine says the scientist as he bends down to scoop up a handful of dirt.
Whoa! says God, shaking his head in disapproval. Not so fast. You get your own dirt."
In Psalm 24 – worth your read – David is reminding himself and us that God made it all and thus owns it all. He is the King of Glory and has written His name on everything.
Prayer: LORD, I worship You as the Creator and Owner of everything. YOU are the King of Glory, and I’m proud to be one of Your children. Amen.
