Day 12 | THE GLORY OF GOD
40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 12 | THE GLORY OF GOD
THE GLORY OF GOD
From Psalm 19
“The heavens tell of the glory of God; and their expanse declares the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.
The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.”
A famous preacher from the last century said, "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." (AW Tozer).
Stop and ponder the statement. And then think… what comes to YOUR MIND when you think about God?
Of course, I'm probably "preaching to the choir," as they say, because you right now are reading (or listening) to this devotional I wrote. You obviously desire to KNOW HIM better and probably think – as David does here – many beautiful things about our Lord God.
Yes, heaven DOES speak about our Creator and the work of His hands.
For instance, did you know that if the orbit of our earth was off by just a tiny fraction of a percent, we would all die? Yes, this world was created perfectly for us (though we've messed it up and polluted it a lot – another devotional sometime.)
In this Psalm, David expands that praise for God by moving beyond Creation to God's precepts and commandments, which are pure and enlightening.
Question – When you read or listen to God's Word, do you see it as enlightening? Eye-opening, revealing, and helpful to your situation? David did, and in Scripture, we find that God considered him "a man after My own heart."
Prayer: I want to be a person after Your own heart too! Help me remember every day how amazing YOU are and how creation speaks to Your glory. Your Words and precepts are perfect, and I'm glad to be one of Your children. Amen.
