Day 8 | TRUSTING IN THE LORD FOR PROTECTION
40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 8 | TRUSTING IN THE LORD FOR PROTECTION
TRUSTING IN THE LORD FOR PROTECTION
From Psalm 11
“I trust in the Lord for protection. So why do you say to me, ‘Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety!’ ? But the Lord is in his holy Temple; the Lord still rules from heaven. He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth. The Lord examines both the righteous and the wicked. He hates those who love violence. For the righteous Lord loves justice. The virtuous will see his face.” (NLT)
In the years just before he became King, David was on the run. He was being hunted to be killed by King Saul, who was jealous of David’s popularity after defeating Goliath. David’s well-intentioned friends were causing David to be fearful and fear cannot co-exist with trust… and David trusted his Lord God.
Today, there are seemingly more opportunities to “Be afraid, be very, very afraid” than ever. Whether it’s a virus, the stock market, interest rates, inflation, supply chain issues, or _______________ (fill in the blank)… there has always been, and there always will be, things in the world that are NOT perfect and could be sources for FEAR if you let them.
I think about it like this. Consider the following two groups of emotions: (1) fear, doubt, and worry, and (2) faith, hope, and love. Which do you want to fill your life? Where do these emotions come from? God or Satan?
David recognized the group of emotions that he wanted to dominate his feelings and he realized that the Source for those was in His Lord God. Thus, he SPOKE words of faith.
“But the Lord is in his holy Temple; the Lord still rules from heaven. He hates those who love violence. For the righteous Lord loves justice. The virtuous will see his face.”
When facing an opportunity to be fearful, maybe you should say out loud what David wrote here.
Prayer: LORD, help me to remember to SPEAK OUT LOUD the words of faith that David used here when it is appropriate, needed, and as you lead. Help me NOT give in to fear. Amen.
