40 Days Praying the PSALMS
Day 7 | THE LORD IS SHELTER AND A REFUGE
THE LORD IS SHELTER AND A REFUGE

From Psalm 9
“I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. I will be filled with joy because of you. I will sing praises to your name, O Most High. the Lord reigns forever, executing judgment from his throne. He will judge the world with justice and rule the nations with fairness. The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you.”
(NLT)

David wrote these lyrics to sing praises to the Lord will ALL his heart. He had seen the marvelous things God had done for him! He had experienced God being his refuge when he needed it and his stronghold when trouble was all around him. David knew that the LORD never forgets those (like himself) who seek the Lord for help, guidance, or when in need.
So have you considered WHY David wrote it? Was he just saying beautiful things about God? (Well, of course he was!) But WHY?

Because he had EXPERIENCED God’s goodness and help.

Today, we don’t praise God very much; even Believers don’t. Yet David describes an important way to glorify God: by simply remembering and telling the beautiful things God has done. How easy is that! Just think back: What are some of the hundreds of things God has helped you with in the past?

And then remember this: God is our refuge (one of David’s recurring terms for the Lord.) And finally, the assurance that God will never abandon those who seek Him.

Prayer: LORD, thank You for all you have done for me. Forgive me for not remembering regularly and praising You for all you have done. Help me pause and regularly reflect, as You have been encouraging ALL of us since Adam and Eve. Amen.
