40 Reasons God DELIGHTS in YOU
Day 37 | YOU KNOW YOUR SOURCE OF HOPE
YOU KNOW YOUR SOURCE OF HOPE
Romans 15:13
“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” (NLT)
The quest for happiness and joy seems to be universal. Everyone I’ve met and talked to through the years – regardless of their faith or station in life – if asked, “Do you want to be happy?” Always answers, “Yes”!
Here, Paul is writing to the church in Rome and using a bundle of desirable terms: hope, joy, peace, trust, overflow, confident, and power.
In years way past, when my wife and I watched a late-night comedian (like Johnny Carson or Jay Leno), they made us laugh. (Back then, they were funny without being crass or political. They were just funny!) And so, what was the source of our laughter? It was the comedian.
Every emotion has a source. It could be from within; it could be from without.
God made us emotional creatures, which is why we can laugh and cry and get angry all in the space of maybe 10 seconds (or less)!
So, what is hope? The dictionary says: “Hope is a desire with anticipation, to want something to happen or be true.”
Paul is teaching us that GOD is the source of our hope. And that hope can help FILL us completely with joy and peace. And that hope comes from trusting God. When we trust in God to do what He said He would do, we can “OVERFLOW with CONFIDENT HOPE.”
And where does that come from? It comes from the Power of the Holy Spirit.
So you see, these fantastic terms are all tied together and interwoven. And they all lead to the SOURCE – Almighty God.
Prayer: LORD, You are my Source of ALL I need, the material things in life, as well as the emotional well-being which includes HOPE, JOY, and PEACE. I put my TRUST in You.
