40 Reasons God DELIGHTS in YOU
Day 26| YOU HAVE A SPIRITUAL GIFT, AND YOU ARE NEEDED
YOU HAVE A SPIRITUAL GIFT, AND YOU ARE NEEDED
From 1 Corinthians 12
“Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed … Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good … All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” (NIV)
I imagine that nearly every reader of these devotionals goes to church somewhere. Have you ever watched your pastor and thought, "I could never do that"? If you compare yourself and your gifts and talents to what your pastor does from the pulpit, I think you could easily get the wrong idea and figure that God can't use you if you can't preach or teach like so-and-so.
Wrong!
Most churches in America only need ONE pastor, so if ALL the members had the spiritual gift of pastor-teacher, how would anything else get done?
Paul teaches in this chapter that, just like a body, we need hands and feet and eyes and ears and so on. We need members of the church body who have different gifts which can be used to make a whole church!
Now hear this: if you are a born-again Believer, you have a spiritual gift! You may or may not be aware of it, but you have one.
I don't have time to teach all about the Spiritual Gifts in this short devotional, but you might start your study by reading 1 Corinthians 12, then perhaps Romans 12:6-8 and Ephesians 4:11-12.
(PS: For a list of spiritual gifts, email me.)
Prayer: LORD, help me find and use the spiritual gift you picked out for me to have. And then show me how to minister that gift in my local church. Amen.
