40 Reasons God DELIGHTS in YOU
Day 15 | WE’RE NEW IN CHRIST
WE’RE NEW IN CHRIST
2 Corinthians 5:17-18
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.” (NLT)
Have you noticed how we always seem to gravitate towards something NEW?
Years ago, when the NEW cars hit the local showroom floor, they were announced by powerful spotlights moving around in the sky at night, leading people to come and see the new models for the new year!
We like to see “new and improved” on a product we’re considering; a NEW housing tract or a NEW cruise ship catches our attention.
So, I wonder where the disconnect is when we read verses like today’s. We don’t seem to appreciate that WE become NEW persons in Christ when we accept Him as Savior and Lord.
Maybe the disconnect is because we don’t see any change in the mirror? Perhaps because we often tend to keep thinking the same old thoughts or doing the same wrong things. But Paul writes here (with help from the Holy Spirit) – that the “OLD life is gone, and a NEW life has begun.”
When you plant a new plant, it starts small and then grows. It doesn’t start fully grown, but that doesn’t mean you ignore the growth or tear it out of the ground. With a new plant, you take care of it, water appropriately, pull the weeds, and continue to be patient.
We need to apply that formula for taking care of our spiritual selves and then pass along that GOOD NEWS of a NEW LIFE to those who don’t yet know Jesus.
Prayer: LORD, thank you for the new life I have in Christ. It is a gift, and I look forward to growing in You. Amen.
