Day 8
WHAT YOU DO MATTERS
Colossians 3:23
"In all the work you are doing, work the best you can. Work as if you were doing it for the Lord, not for people." (NCV)
It's easy to disconnect our walk with the Lord and our job or the company we run. When we're working, we know when to come to work, when we are done for the day, and what happens in-between.
Unfortunately, many Christians (most?) have an unbiblical view of work. They don't connect their job with their walk with Jesus. They see them as separate areas of life, much like you might view your kitchen as being a different place than your bedroom.
Work that is pleasing to the Lord is that which contributes to His plan for the world. It's part of His will. However, there are "jobs" that are NOT consistent with His will and Believers should avoid anything connected with questionable ethics or morals. (See God's Word for details!)
Work is God's gift to us.
Through our work, we serve other people. If you consider ALL the steps necessary to get the food you're having for dinner tonight on the table – from farm to you – you'd be extra grateful!
Work is also how God helps meet our needs. Through work, we can use our gifts and talents to help others, and in return, we are supported (through an income) so that we might provide for our own physical needs and that of our families.
Additionally, working and earning an income is how we can help support our local church and ministries around the world through them.
And finally, God expects us to work; it is part of His plan for His people.
Prayer: LORD, thank You for providing for me through the years, for honorable work, within my areas of ability, and for using that work to provide for my family and me. Please help me always be thankful to you as the Source for everything good in my life. Amen.
