40 Reasons God DELIGHTS in YOU
Day 2 | YOU MAKE GOD SING!
YOU MAKE GOD SING!
Zephaniah 3:17
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
Did you ever sing to your baby? And had they done another WONDERFUL skill? Or did you just sing to them because they were YOURS?
I’ll bet the latter, as babies don’t do that much – especially when they are young.
Here, the prophet Zephaniah is led by the Spirit to tell us that God – our Heavenly Father – takes GREAT delight in us and, because of His love, rejoices over us with singing!
I know it’s hard to imagine God singing over us like a mother or father to their child, but He does. And perhaps, that is a secret we should consider during those times when we wonder if He cares, if He is around, if He knows what we’re going through.
Remember, Jesus taught His followers (and that means us too) to pray: “Our Father Who art in heaven.” That was a real game-changer for the Jews of Jesus’ time, who had never been taught to pray to God as their Father. And fathers – and mothers – LOVE their children and SING to them (or “over them”) as a way to comfort, soothe and show a connection.
I mean, how else do you show a connection to a baby? You can’t sit them down and show them a family tree. You can’t show them their name on a birth certificate. A baby can only see, hear, and feel… and isn’t yet able to read or understand much speech. But science shows that babies CAN distinguish music and will react to it. Thus, many parents (ok, usually moms) will sing a lullaby to their children to settle them down and relax them for sleep time.
Our heavenly Father knows that we need that at times too.
Prayer: LORD, you know me so well. Help me relax in You, feel your closeness and “hear” your singing. Amen.
