40 Days PONDERING the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
Day 4 | PEACE
PEACE
Galatians 5:22
“But the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, PEACE… “
Peace – “eirene” in Greek (pronounced “i-ray-nay”) is translated as one, peace, quietness, and rest.
The dictionary defines “peace” as: “a state of tranquility or quiet: such as freedom from civil disturbance; a state of security or order within a community provided for by law or custom; freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions; harmony in personal relations or a state of mutual concord between governments.”
Let me ask: Are YOU experiencing that? Do you see it happening around you: in your community, your thought life, your relationships, or your country?
Again, we are living in an upsetting, non-peaceful time in our lives. So, does that means that we are doomed NOT to enjoy the Spiritual Gift of peace in our lives?
Good news! As Believers in Christ, with the Holy Spirit inside of us, we CAN experience HIS peace – God’s peace – amid the turmoil around us.
Have you ever experienced a tornado or hurricane? I have NOT, but I understand that in the MIDDLE of a hurricane (or tornado), there exists the “eye of the storm” in which there is complete peace. No rushing category five winds… but a PEACE and calm and tranquility which is almost unbelievable.
Let me suggest – that YOU and I can experience TODAY, that kind of peace even though we are surrounded by upset people, governments, and challenging times.
So, what is the KEY? As with ANY of these Spiritual Gifts, we must DRAW close to Jesus. And we do that by spending TIME with Him… in the Word, in prayer, with other mature Believers, and with our church family. Like a good exercise program, enjoying God’s peace CAN be done – but it takes determination and commitment.
Prayer: LORD, thank YOU for offering me this kind of peace. The world around me is in a mess, but I know – with Your help – I can live peacefully during the storm. Amen.
