Day 28 | THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE | John 14:5-6
THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE
John 14:5-6
“Thomas said to Him, ‘Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.’”
After telling His disciples about heaven, which He is preparing for them, Jesus answers “doubting” Thomas’ question with one of the most important statements in the entire New Testament: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”
We are living today in a broken world that has a totally messed up opinion about something so essential as TRUTH. Pontus Pilate asked a critically important question to Jesus at his trial: “What is truth?”
To some people today for whom “TRUTH” means whatever they want it to be, absolute truth (truths that are TRUE independently of whether you acknowledge it or not) is wrong and undesirable.
Thus when Jesus claims to be THE way, THE truth, and THE life (NOT “a-way” or “a-truth”); people then and people today who are without Christ, disagree and even detest His statement. They consider it narrow-minded, bigoted, out-of-date, non-inclusive, and “hate speech.”
As Jesus warned the multitude in the Sermon on the Mount: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it. Beware of false prophets." (Matthew 7:13-15)
In John 17, Jesus is praying to His Father and prayed: “Your WORD is truth.” He also prayed, “sanctify them with the truth.” He was asking the Father to “set us apart” for special use, to make us holy.
Prayer: LORD, thank You for being the way, the truth, and the life and that I have come to know you as Lord and Savior. Help me to help others understand that your offer is open to all who will call on the name of the LORD. Amen.
