Day 16 | MARY’S PRAISE | Luke 1:39-42
Four Weeks of ADVENT
Day 16 | MARY’S PRAISE | Luke 1:39-42
MARY: BLESSED BECAUSE SHE BELIEVED
Luke 1:39-45
“A few days later Mary hurried to the hill country of Judea, to the town where Zechariah lived. She entered the house and greeted Elizabeth. At the sound of Mary's greeting, Elizabeth's child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, "God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed. Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should visit me? When I heard your greeting, the baby in my womb jumped for joy. You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.” NLT
Doctor Luke did a masterful job in researching ALL that had happened in the life of Jesus and (with the Holy Spirit helping) recording the events in order.
Here, after she agrees to ALL that the angel had said, Mary rushes off to visit her older cousin Elizabeth, who is miraculously expecting John (the Baptist). They greet and we learn that John – still in the womb – jumped for joy when Mary – pregnant with Jesus the Christ – enters the room. That in itself is AMAZING – but then – BOTH of these ladies' pregnancies were of God and announced by an angel.
Two things come to mind. ONE, God blessed Elizabeth with an answer to the desires of her and Zechariah’s hearts… to have a child. They were both obedient to and loved the LORD.
TWO… Mary – who wasn't asking for a child – was tapped to be the Mother of the Lord Jesus Christ as he entered the world as a baby. And she agreed to all that the angel told her.
Then Elizabeth captures it with her statement: “You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said."
May we also believe God will do ALL that He has said.
Prayer: LORD, that is one of the KEYS to living a full life in Christ: having FAITH that ALL that You have said, you CAN do, and you WILL do. Amen.
