Four Weeks of ADVENT
Day 15 | PROPHECY FULFILLED | Luke 2:11-12
PROPHECY FULFILLED
Luke 2:11-12
“For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
After frightening the shepherds with the “good news for ALL people,” the angel continued by telling them WHERE to find the newborn baby Jesus.
As we’ve been studying in this “Four Weeks of Advent” series, the birth of Jesus the Christ was the fulfillment of many Bible prophecies which started in Genesis and continue through the book of the Revelation.
One of the “biggies” was that Jesus would be born in the “City of David.” Another… that He would be of the lineage of Abraham and David. Both were fulfilled.
The shepherds, I imagine, were Jewish and – though most likely illiterate – had heard the stories and the prophecies of a coming Messiah. Thus, and again I imagine, when the angels leave them, a discussion ensues. “Do we go?” “No, we should stay with the sheep.” “We can’t leave the sheep – we’ll lose our jobs.” “Yes, but when is the last time angels appeared to you?” “This is a big deal, and we’ve been invited and pointed in the right direction.” “I’m going.” And so off they went.
Yet still, how difficult must that have been. Being a shepherd was a lowly job… but it was a job. And yet, the angels must have really struck a chord – and then again – how often do you SEE an angel?
They were willing to go searching for Him. A good decision which likely changed their lives – for the better.
Prayer: LORD, You came to earth to change ALL of our lives, for the better. Help me to be sensitive to people all around me who need YOU, to be their person Lord and Savior THIS Christmas season. Amen.
