Day 11 | MARY IS CHOSEN | Luke 1:35
Four Weeks of ADVENT
Day 11 | MARY IS CHOSEN | Luke 1:35
MARY IS CHOSEN
Luke 1:35
“And the angel answered her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy--the Son of God."
Although we’ve heard the story countless times, it still seems to have been unbelievable; Mary has been chosen.
A simple girl, from a good Jewish family, has been chosen by God to bring His Son – Yeshua – Jesus – into the world.
When we were little and heard the story in Sunday School, we just accepted it as what was. But as we get older, and more thoughtful, and think about it, we realize that the entire situation was unusual in the extreme.
What did Mary think? What did her parents think? Her neighbors? Her Jewish friends?
But the Angel answered her questions with the statement of fact: "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy – the Son of God."
And as we learn – in the “rest of the story” – Mary accepted what the angel said in faith and believed.
Last week as we discussed Zechariah and Elizabeth being told by an angel they were going to have a baby (and to name him John); we learn that they doubted. That is in contrast to Mary – who just believed
.
FAITH is one of the keys to being a Follower of Jesus. Believing that what God says is true. To accept it and act on it without doubting.
What happened to Mary has never happened before; and yet, she’s OK with that and accepts it.
May our faith be as strong!
Prayer: LORD, thank YOU for being patient with me as I live my life for You. Help me to trust you more and more – day by day, Amen.
