Day 5 | GOD WITH US | Isaiah 7:14
GOD WITH US

Isaiah 7:14
“Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel.”

This prophecy – recorded by the prophet Isaiah – was made about 700 years before the birth of Jesus.  In this prophecy, we learn three important things:

First… God – who knows all and can do all – tells us that He will give a SIGN when Jesus comes to earth.

Consider how many babies are born every day on the planet.  HOW then would God’s Son’s birth be distinguished?  God said He would give us a SIGN.

And what unique SIGN would He give?  Well, the second thing we learn is that a “virgin will conceive.”  Now that’s pretty unique, right?  And she will give birth to a son!  No parlor trick, no magic show, just a real live baby born to a virgin.  Only God could do that! Right?

Then third and finally we learn… “and will call him, Immanuel.”

"Immanuel" is a Hebrew word meaning "God with us" and expresses the wonder of the incarnation.

Consider, God desires to be with us.  To that end, He sent His one and only Son – whose birth we celebrate at Christmas time.

And why does God desire to be with us?  LOVE.

God knew that WE all have a problem. That problem is sin which separates us from HIM.  So, hundreds of years before Jesus arrived on planet earth in the form of a baby, God is speaking – through the prophets – about this super SIGN that will help prove that this Child is unique and is from God.

And thus, we celebrate the birth of Jesus the Christ, the Son of the Living God.  Immanuel – God with us!

Prayer: LORD, Your plan is fantastic and beyond anything that we could have ever imagined. Thank YOU for sending Jesus to earth so that we might know Him and have a relationship with You – the one and only holy, perfect God.  Amen.
