Four Weeks of ADVENT
Day 2 | LIGHT VERSUS DARKNESS | John 1:1-5
LIGHT VERSUS DARKNESS
John 1:1-5
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him, all things were made; without him, nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the Light of all mankind. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (ESV)
Continuing from yesterday, I’ve added verse 5 to this vital section of Scripture in John 1.
John is teaching that Jesus is the WORD, that HE is the Creator of all that is, that He is part of God from eternity past, that Jesus is the LIGHT … and then … “the LIGHT shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Throughout recorded history, there have been times of plenty and lack, good versus evil, light versus darkness, etc.
Today, most of us would admit that the world looks darker than most of us can remember. Perhaps the days of WW2 or the Great Depression are still in some people’s minds, but for most of us, we didn’t experience either. Thus, our current “darkness” has many concerned and worried.
Thus, verse 5 should be GREAT COMFORT to we Followers of Jesus that “the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.” That should give ALL of us HOPE that no matter the future, Jesus is here, is our LIGHT, and will guide, direct and be with us throughout whatever comes.
The Birth of Jesus made all of this – and more – possible.
Get ready to celebrate His birthday!
Prayer: LORD, we can never thank You enough for what You did and your coming to earth as a baby. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Amen.
