Day 12 | HOW TO RECEIVE YOUR ASK | 1 John 5:15
HOW TO RECEIVE YOUR ASK
1 John 5:15
“And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”
Yesterday, in the previous verse, we discussed our need to PRAY according to His will… and that His will is revealed to us in His Word, the Bible.
I’m reminded of some university students I’ve had who – because of laziness, I’m guessing – ask me questions that are already answered in the course syllabus or the instructions for a particular unit.
We – in Christ – need to be more diligent in SEEKING God’s plan and will in His Word. We need to READ His promises. (Some have counted thousands of promises!) By doing so – by reading His Word – we learn what HIS will is and can pray accordingly. (Tip: Don’t pray FOR something God’s Word specially forbids.)
The next verse – the one we have today – goes on to say that if we pray and ask for something in His will, we can have confidence that He hears us… and we’ll receive what we have asked of Him.
John also wrote in his Gospel – John 15:7 – (Jesus said): “If you remain in Me, and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
So, the key to receiving what we ask is to REMAIN in Christ, keep His Words in us (reading and meditating on His Word), and THEN we can “ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
This is a tremendous promise! But, you won’t RECEIVE the promise if you don’t do what is required.
Yesterday’s devotional and today’s go hand in hand. 1 John 5:14 and 15. Read them together and then be a “doer of the Word.”
Prayer: LORD, lead me to places in Your Word where I can learn and grow and become better at praying to You. Amen.
