Day 40 | WHAT IS THE WISE THING TO DO?
WHAT IS THE WISE THING TO DO?
2 Timothy 3:14-17
“But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (NKJV)
There are many books and collections of wisdom across the ages written by many intelligent people. And many of them have lots of good things to say.
But the Bible is unique and stands alone. Why? How? The difference between the Word of God (aka the Bible) and the wisdom literature of the centuries is the difference between human wisdom and God’s wisdom. God saw to it that the 40 human writers of the Bible were INSPIRED by the Holy Spirit to write what they wrote. And since the Holy Spirit is also God, what they wrote was – as verse 16 says – inspired by God or "God-breathed." Yes, the writers had their personalities, but God directed their writing and the Bible is therefore trustworthy and in a class by itself. It is error-free and its wisdom has been proven over the millennia.
So, what’s a person to do?
My suggestion: Let the Word of God be “a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path.” (Psalm 119:105). Let God’s Word be your FINAL source of wisdom as you make decisions.
Now, on a practical basis, the Bible is a BIG book… and you might find that you need guidance more quickly than if you were to dive in and read all sixty-six books. That is where other mature Christians can help. Those who have read and practiced God’s Word and are willing to meet, pray, and share God’s wisdom based on His Word.
Learning from our all-wise God and His wise children. That is the WISE thing to do.
Prayer: LORD, help me to learn from You and Your Word. Amen.
