Day 38 | WISDOM LOVES RIGHTEOUSNESS
40 Days of WISDOM
Day 38 | WISDOM LOVES RIGHTEOUSNESS
WISDOM LOVES RIGHTEOUSNESS
Proverbs 13:5-6
“A righteous man hates lies, but a wicked man is loathsome, and he acts shamefully. Righteousness (being in right standing with God) guards the one whose way is blameless, but wickedness undermines and overthrows the sinner.” (AMP)
Righteousness is one of those “stained glass churchy” words… but it’s an essential one for those of us who believe in Jesus.
Here, Solomon contrasts the life of the righteous vs. that of the wicked. The righteous person is in “right standing with God,” which is HUGE. Today, under the new covenant, we come to “right standing” by receiving Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
Solomon states that a righteous person HATES lies, which is consistent with Jesus saying that HE alone is “the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6)
Have you noticed that as you walk with the LORD, it becomes easier to spot lies and untruths being bantered about?
It reminds me of years ago when my wife worked in a bank. You wonder about counterfeit bills and how they teach bankers to recognize the fake. They do it by handling the REAL ones often; thus, they can see or feel the false bills if and when someone tries to slip one by.
For the Follower of Jesus, spending time in God’s Word is a little like that. The more time we spend in prayer and reading the Word, the more accustomed to the TRUTH we become and the easier it becomes to discern the FAKE and FALSE when we read or hear it.
Today, there is more FAKE, FALSE, and WICKED news and activities “out there” than ever in our country’s history. Thus, we all need to be discerning regarding what we read and hear.
Thankfully, we are guarded by Christ’s righteousness, which was imparted to us when we came to Jesus.
Prayer: LORD, thank You for my salvation and life in Christ! I am so thankful that You are in control, leading, guiding, and protecting me. Amen.
