THE SIXTH DAY
(Part 2)
And God made something NEW: PEOPLE!
Genesis 1:26-28, 31
“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’
Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”
I enjoy the last verse: “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.” He called the other parts of His creation “good,” but this part: “very good.”
Further, WE are the ONLY part of God’s creation made “in God’s image and likeness.” That is VERY significant because – as we learn from other Scriptures – God, the Almighty Creator of the universe, wants to have a personal, interactive, loving relationship with you, me, and EVERY person on the planet… past, present, or future. AND, He has chosen US to be invited to live with Him in His Kingdom for eternity, by virtue of what His Only Begotten Son did for us.
Today’s NEW part of creation was we people, and – as we find out in the next chapter of Genesis – when WE were created, “God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being with a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7)
You are special and were created to have a living relationship with Almighty God.
Prayer: LORD, thank You for creating me. Help me to grow in my relationship with You and to praise you every day of my life. Amen.
