THE SIXTH DAY
(Part 1)
Genesis 1:24-25
“Then God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind’ and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.”
Have you ever considered how CREATIVE our God is? In these two verses, God created NEW creatures of every kind: cattle, beasts of the field, and everything that walks or creeps on the earth.
The Smithsonian Institute has documented that insects are the most diverse group on the planet, with over 900,000 different kinds. They comprise the largest biomass of all the terrestrial animals, with an estimated 10 quintillion (10 followed by 18 zeros) individual insects alive. In the US, the number of species is around 91,000, including beetles, flies, ants, bees, wasps, moths, and butterflies, the largest.
Then we have all the animals in the world with about 7,000 being mammals, including, of course, mankind.
In this part of the sixth day (before man), God created all the other living creatures on the earth.
How creative are YOU? Do you think you could create 900,000 different types of insects? (No way!) How about over 7,000 types of animals? (Again, no way!) And these were all NEW, never existed before types.
According to the American Veterinary Association, in 2024 45% of American households own a dog and 32% own a cat, accounting for 89.7M dogs and 73.8M cats in the country. So, it’s very likely you now have or have had a pet. If you’re like my wife and I (we have a golden retriever), your pet brings you a lot of fun, love, and attention. The relationship is mutually beneficial and joyful.
Just leave it to our Creative Lord God to know that many would love a pet, just ONE of the many parts of God’s Creation.
Prayer: LORD, when I look at the numbers, I am awed by Your creativity. Thank You for ALL you created. Amen.
