40 Days of NEW with GOD
Day 24 | SOMETHING NEW – EDIBLE PLANTS
SOMETHING NEW – EDIBLE PLANTS

Genesis 1:11-13
“Then God said, ‘Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.’ And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.”

Every now and then, my wife and I go to our local plant store nursery and look around. I am always a bit bewildered as I see ALL of the variety of plants, flowers, vegetables, trees, grasses, and more that they have. When you inquire of a worker-bee, they can tell you what kind of soil and location each does best in and thus whether they would work well at your particular location and so on.

But WHERE did all of these plants come from? Almighty Creator God, Elohim (in the Hebrew).

What plants do YOU particularly enjoy?

Consider which plants you enjoy LOOKING at. Maybe roses, plumeria, palm trees, magnolia trees, or… well, you get the idea.

Then consider what kind of fruit you enjoy eating. Bananas? Apples? Oranges? Grapes?

And what about nuts? Hazelnuts, walnuts, pecans?

What about vegetables? Corn, onions, lettuce, cabbage? You get the idea (and BTW, there are so many different edible fruits and vegetables that we should never get bored with what we eat!)

Again, the point is… our Creator God knew what we needed, knew our tendency to get bored (and thus the need for variety) and what is good for us. Hence, He created MORE than enough options to satisfy even the most picky eater.

Prayer: LORD, thank You for all the variety of fruits and vegetables You dreamed up – for our benefit. I don’t know that I was thankful for that as a child, but I’m not a child anymore, and I am grateful now! Amen.
