AMBASSADORS FOR CHRIST

2 Corinthians 5:17-20
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.  Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ.”

Have you ever met an ambassador? I’m sure that question makes you think about the many foreign ambassadors that America has serving in countries worldwide. Essentially, each of those ambassadors represents the United States of America to the host country to which they have been sent. Further, the Embassy in which the Ambassador lives in that foreign country is considered literally to be as much a part of the USA as is Arizona. Further, the Ambassadors represent – to their host country – the President of the United States. They must be careful about what they say to the people there, for they are essentially speaking as the President.

The Apostle Paul is making a similar statement regarding each of us in Christ. Not only are we NEW CREATURES, where the OLD THINGS have passed away (think SIN), but we have been given a JOB while we wait for Christ to come again. We are to engage in the ministry of reconciliation, sharing the Gospel, the Good News that God has provided a way (Jesus) whereby EVERYONE who chooses may be reconciled may have a NEW relationship with God the Father through Jesus the Son.

In sharing that Good News, we are like ambassadors. We are living in a “foreign country” (so to speak), but we have the privilege of speaking ABOUT and FOR our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

So, NEW CREATURE, you have a new title too: Ambassador for Christ.

Prayer: LORD, I accept this title. Help me to be a good and faithful Ambassador for You, sharing the Good News of the Gospel as You lead. Amen.
