Day 10 | GRACE, BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE WORLD
GRACE, BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE WORLD

2 Timothy 1:9
“Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.”
(NKJV)

Let me ask a question I’ll bet you haven’t thought about today.

What was going on BEFORE the world was created in Genesis 1:1? Who was there? What did they talk about? What were the plans for WHEN our time began? (See, I told you hadn’t thought about this yet today!)

This, of course, gets us into the area of “imponderables,” wherein we try to understand something entirely beyond our ability to understand. In this case, God existed – Father, Son, and Spirit – forever in time past. It goes along with believing that God is omniscient (He knows EVERYTHING), is omnipotent (He is ALL powerful), and that He is omnipresent (everywhere present at once – past, present, future).

Today’s verse makes it clear that the LORD knew that we would come to Christ… and when and how. We did not find God; He sees us, but then we must respond to His call when we sense it. We were obviously to be part of His plan in this sliver of time on this planet, in this country, and ALL the other things God knew that have happened AND will happen. I know… it’s imponderable, as I stated.

“Grace was given to us in Christ Jesus” before Genesis 1:1 and, in fact, the plan to have the Son of God come to earth was foreknown by God and thus shared with the Prophets of the Old Testament before the event ever happened.

So, that means that the LORD had a purpose, and planned to shower you and me with His grace and a “holy calling” to draw us to Christ, and eventually heaven, even before “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1).

That’s GRACE.

Prayer: LORD, I can’t fully comprehend ALL that You have done, but I’m thankful to be one of your children and to fit into Your plan. Amen.
